Lynn's Spine

I realized yesterday that I had posted the same piece of art twice, which I didn't mean to do.  These two are from an MRI of my friend Lynn's spine.

Up until now I have been able to use fabric from my large stash of hand dyes and am very thankful I have them.  In the piece below, I did some discharge on hand dyed black that became a light bue gray color.  Discharging is so random with the results, but this ended up suiting my color choices perfectly.

I've posted eight of the twelve pieces I've made so far and when my tech department gets around to it, I'll add it to my side bar.  I'm thinking about getting rid of my website.  I haven't updated it in ages, and I'm not sure it's necesssary anymore,  since I can put everything on the blog side panel.  Any have any opinions on this?

Moving Along

Here are two more of my series on xray's, MRI's and CT scans.  This first one is from an xray of my friend Lisa Miller's foot.  In the original xray, there are lots of pins in her toes, and I was able to use a piece of rusted nails I made a while ago.  Rust is really difficult to sew over, and I busted a few needles, even on these little bits.

This hip fracture belongs to a friend of Paula's http://paulachung.blogspot.com/, and this woman has had the misfortune of breaking several bones due to severe osteoporosis.

I'm using wool bedspread batting in all of these, which shrinks just enough to add some texture, unlike the wool felting I've used in other pieces, which seems to shrink about 4 inches for every 20 inches of fabric.  I'd love to try that on a larger piece, but I don't think I could ever get it to lay flat.

Body Parts

Before I talk about my own work, I want to show you nature's work in my backyard.  This Trumpet Vine is about 10 feet tall, and full of flowers.

My own work is not so tall, about 4 feet by 3 feet, and is a continuation of my series on MRI's.  This is a very badly fractured hip belonging to the friend of a friend.  She has osteoarthritis, and has fractured her hips more than once.

I've finished 10 pieces for this series, and plan at least 2 more.  After that, I'm starting on some sonograms from two of my daughters' pregnancies.  That will be more personal work, which I think is why I'm spending a lot of time thinking about it, but haven't been able to start on it.
