Twelve by Twelve Colorplay Series

Pretty in Pink
12" x 12"

While I seldom wear pink clothing, I love pink nail polish and nail polish names.  This piece has a background with a variety of polish names with a sheer over it printed with bottles of polish, then colored with water color pencils.

Streaming Blue
12" x 12"

Shibori is so much fun to do and Streaming Blue was no exception.  I started with white fabric, stitched it, painted it black, and then dyed it blue.  I put in some little white dots at the beginning of the process to keep some white in the picture.

Energy Flow
12" x 12"

I took a class in disperse dye shortly before this challenge came up, and I ended with a piece of fabric the exact colors of the challenge.  I pressed it to make little mountain peaks and hand stitched in the flora of the area.

Kyoto Revisited
12" x 12"

This was my color choice and I started with  a piece of deconstructed screen print I had.  When I started laying the yellow and purple strips on it, I saw an Asian landscape come to life.

The Dancer
12" x 12"

This is one of the few pieces where I just started pulling out colors to see where they would take me.  I must have been influenced by the Cuban musicians I like to listen to, because I saw this dancer immediately.

Blue Moon
12" x 12"

This piece was made using fabric I rusted with a piece metal grating I had found somewhere.  I used that for the top, and some large rusted washers for the bottom piece.  I had previously dyed some of the rust fabric this aqua blue color, and used a sheer I had rusted along with the washers.

Line Study
12" x 12"

Nobody could guess this was mine, it being very out of character.  I searched around for a design I liked and decided to go back to the basics using simple lines.

Line Study #2
12" x 12"

This is another piece where I decided to use basic lines to see if I could make something I liked.  I used some paper lamination which is one of my favorite processes.

Chartreuse Line Study
12" x 12"

I continued on with the line studies in this piece, using monoprinting to create the initial line.  The black and green needed a contrast, and red worked perfectly.

Savoring India
12" x 12"

I've used this technique involving wool felt as a batting in the past, and find it adds a lot of texture to the piece.  I'm never sure what I will end up with, and in this case it was spice seeds.

Study in Gray

12" x 12"

This work came out of a Dorothy Caldwell class where we used incense to burn holes in fabric.  I wanted gray to be the  predominant color with just a hint of yellow and red.

Orange
12" x 12"

Before I was invited to be part of the Twelve by Twelve group, I made a series of small pieces using lots of painted interfacing, cheesecloth, and stitching.  I decided to go back to this for my final Twelve Colorplay work.
