Eggplant, Wine and Emerald Green

Yesterday was the new reveal of the Twelve's colorway series.  Nikki chose eggplant, wine, and emerald green and I have to say it was difficult for me to come up with anything I liked.  I started five different pieces before I settled into this one.  To check out what everyone else has done, you can go to http://www.twelveby12.blogspot.com/

While these colors were a challenge for me, and in fact making anything with assigned colors is a challenge for me, I did find myself thinking about this in the back of my mind for most of the two and a half months.  I find it really interesting how people think through their art.  I'm sure some people can come up with a design and assign the prescribed colors to their places, and I know others try to find something about the colors that corresponds to something real in their life. Or some people can even find that colors remind them of an experience they have had. I don't seem to be able to do that and wonder if it is a skill that can be developed.
I've struggled through all the colorway challenges, whether I've liked the color choices or not, because I'm hoping it will open up new pathways in the way I think about my art.

I wonder if this is why I have such a hard time approaching realism and representation in what I do...because I'm seeking to mirror the emotional, spiritual...that I want it not to be a definitive form???? I hope you decide to write more about the question you posed...I tend to think about often myself. Love the piece!

I too find it a bit difficult to work with assigned colours. That's why I decided I would also use some of my own pictures as inspiration for these challenges, and preferably nature and landscape pictures.
