Shibori

I finally have time to play around with the shibori techniques I learned in the Jan Myers Newbury class at the Crow Barn last month.

I painted dye onto to a piece of fabric (no soda ash involved yet), let it dry, then marked large circles on it that I basted and pulled up tight.

Wrapping and securing these took hours, but was sort of meditating.

I sewed some darts into a second piece of fabric, then pole wrapped it with string.

I put the whole thing in a black dye bath, adding soda after 15 minutes. As you can see, lots of the yellow washes out, and the black dye bath kind of leaches into the yellow making a green color.

Love these! Wish we lived closer so that we could have some shibori play dates.
