Into the Woods

I've just finished a new piece in the aspen series. This one is titled "Into the Woods". The process is the same as the others, with painted interfacing, scrim, cheesecloth and lots of handstitching. I added a few beads to the water this time to hopefully give it movement. This piece is going to an exhibit I'm in with the California Fiber Artists. Their website is www.cafiberartists.com if you want to check it out.

Take It Further for February

I've finished this months Take It Further challange. The challange was to make something that recalls early memories and as I posted earlier, I had to wear orthopedic saddle shoes for many years growing up. I hated these shoes because all my friends were wearing the cool tennies and these were just plain ugly. To amke this piece I drew the image on freezer paper, cut it out and then alternated painting, then ironing another piece down and painting some more. My left leg really isn't skinnier than my right!

Take It Further

The Take It Further Challange for the month of February is your earliest memories and I immediatly thought of the Kennedy assassinations and the moon landings, but then I decided I wanted a more personal memory. When I was growing up my mom somehow latched on to a shoe salesman named Mr Hartzler. He recommended that I wear "special" expensive shoes to correct my high arch. I had to wear these puppies for years and I still have a high arch, which I don't think you can correct. These shoes were always black and white and always scuffed up 10 minutes after I put them on and not cool at all. Here is a picture of me in my Camp Fire Girl uniform with the lovely shoes. I'm thinking of doing a small piece (I learned my lesson last time), with just the shoes and maybe my stick legs in them

Stamps and Screens

I've been busy trying to make some new images to use in my work and what you see below is the end result. The two in the top picture are stamps I carved out of Staedler Mastercarve Artist Carving Block which I bought at Dick Blick. The package says "Cuts Like Butter" and that is exacly right , it's so easy, I finished each one in about 15 minutes

These next two are made using my thermofax printer and some images I had taken in Santa Fe. The top one is a sidewalk brick,

and this bottom one is a treetop.

I have no clue what I'm going to so with them, but I'll post when I figure it out.

Cocoa Beans

My on line challange group http://twelveby12.blogspot.com/ has finished our latest challange which was Chocolate. This was a hard one for me because I didn't want to be to obvious and I didn't want to use brown. I think this piece accomplished what I wanted to say.

Our next challange is "community" which brings up all kinds of possibilities. Check out the above blog to moniter our progress.
